Inlet Devices
The ideal situation is to incorporate an appropriate inlet device in the mist elimination system as well. Since nearly all mesh and vane mist eliminators flood at < 2" (50 mm) WC, any incoming mal-distribution will be found on the outgoing side. In this regard a carefully selected feed distributor provides three benefits:

  1. Removal of the bulk liquids so that only mist impinges on the separation internals.
  2. Evening out the flow to across the cross section of the tower or drum.
  3. Deflecting the incoming momentum so that shattering of the entrained droplets is minimized.

Ram Tray Service has three types, the RAM's Pipe (RP), RAM's Wedge (RW), and RAM's Horn (RH); the selection of which is dependent on the momentum of the incoming feed. These devices allow the liquid droplets alone to challenge the mist eliminator element and smooth out the flow to give the devices extra, hidden capacity.
